Medallion, Ikechukwu Nnamani scoop awards at 2020 BoICT awards

Few weeks after emerging the ‘Most Connected Data Centre of the Decade’ at the Nigeria@60 ICT Hall of Fame Awards organised by TechTV in collaboration with Techeconomy.ng as the highpoint of the 2020 Titans of Tech Virtual Conference and Expo, Medallion Communications, has also been named the 2020 Beacon of ICT (BoICT), ‘Most Interconnected Data Centre in Nigeria’.

Speaking on Medallion Communications, the Publisher/Editor In-Chief of CommunicationsWeek Media Limited, Mr. Ken Nwogbo, said that Medallion has distinguished itself as a foundational telecommunications infrastructure servicing company focused on providing carrier neutral critical network infrastructure for the use of the industry.

He said that the massive votes garnered by the company is a testament to the ability to connecting Nigeria to the world by maintaining state-of-the-art data centres and traffic clearing houses that allow the country’s telecom service providers to offer their clients world class services.

“It is obvious that Medallion Communications datacentres are regarded the most connected facilities in West Africa. The voters that attested to this. It remains the region’s number one peering point connecting the sub-region to the rest of the world. We are happy for what Medallion is doing in the ICT ecosystem in Nigeria and indeed West Africa,” Mr. Nwogbo said.

Similarly, the President/Chief executive officer of Medallion Communications, Engr. Ikechukwu Nnamani, bagged the Nigeria CommunicationsWeek ICT Personality of the Year.

According to the organizers of the annual lecture/award, the Engineer was identified as the ICT Personality of the Year for his contributions to the Nigerian telecom industry, which has so many ways helped to bridge the digital divide.

“Engr Nnamani focuses on implementing the core network infrastructure that promotes, develops and distributes local contents and ensuring high quality service is delivered to the subscribers at an affordable rates”, Mr. Nwogbo said, adding that under his leadership the Medallion datacenter in Lagos is rated the most interconnected facility in the West African sub-region being the number one peering point for the region and boosting all submarine cables in the region, long distance providers, metro fiber providers, mobile services providers, fixed services providers, OTT providers, Internet Exchange, VAS providers, and global Tier1 service providers, amongst others.

“Over 80% of all internet traffic exchanged at the Nigerian Internet Exchange takes place at Medallion’s datacenters.

“He has also promoted the establishment telecom infrastructure in several African countries including Ghana, Togo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Kenya, Uganda, and Angola amongst others”.

Engr. Nnamani is very active in promoting forward looking industry policies for the growth of the telecom industry across Africa working with both regulators as well as operators to achieve this goal.

He currently acts as an Executive of the premier telecom body in Nigeria – the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) where he is currently the President.

He also serves as an Executive Board member of Nigerian Internet Registration Association, the organization responsible for managing Nigeria’s Country Code Top Level Domain (ngTLD)Prior to co-founding Medallion, Engr. Nnamani worked as an optical systems engineer at Luxcore Networks Inc., in Atlanta Georgia, USA.

While at Luxcore, he helped design and manufactured Luxcore’s Semiconductor Waveguide Optical Regenerative Device. It is the world’s first integrated photonic wavelength converter chip. It guarantees non-blocking of traffic flow in telecommunication networks. Engr. Nnamani equally played a key role in the design and manufacture of Luxcore’s LambdaXchange.

The LambdaXchange is the world first demonstrated All Optical Router. The LambdaXchange won the best system award at the 2001 Optical Fiber Conference at Anaheim, California.

While receiving the awards, Engr. Nnamani, thanked the organisers for the honour.

He dedicated the awards to the team at Mediallion Communications for their dedication and said these are rewards for hardwork and also consolidation of Medallion’s resilience in building telecom infrastructure that is currently accommodating the hosting of contents from both local and international service providers in Nigeria.
